Barcelona First La Liga line up against Alaves: The long wait is finally over as Barcelona return to La Liga action on Saturday with Alaves the visitors to the Camp Nou.
It’s been a pretty interesting summer for Ernesto Valverde’s side with plenty of new players arriving and other players heading away from the club.
Where the Barcelona confirms the exit of Marlon.
So, let’s have a look at who may start on Saturday.
There’s no doubt that Marc-Andre ter Stegen will take his place between the sticks, and at right-back, it’ll probably be Nelson Semedo.
Gerard Pique should feature at center-back with either Samuel Umtiti or Clement Lenglet beside him. Umtiti was one of the last players to return after the World Cup so might need a bit more time to be ready.
Over on the left, it’ll be Jordi Alba, but young Juan Miranda will be hoping for a place in the squad after training with the first team and featuring against Boca Juniors.
This is where it starts to get really interesting with new boys Arthur and Arturo Vidal pushing for La Liga debuts. It’ll also be interesting to see whether Valverde continues with last season’s 4-4-2 or reverts back to 4-3-3.
Whatever the formation it’s likely that Philippe Coutinho will start, although it’s not clear if he’ll play in midfield or further forward.
Ivan Rakitic and Sergio Busquets look the most likely options to join Coutinho unless Valverde wants to go with one of his new arrivals.
Rafinha is also in contention after a strong pre-season.
he big question up front is whether Ousmane Dembele will get the nod. The Frenchman scored a brilliant winner against Sevilla in the Supercopa which might have been enough to secure his place.
Malcolm is also pushing for a place after opening the scoring against Boca Juniors in the Joan Gamper Trophy, although it’s more likely he’ll be on the bench.
Lionel Messi will lead the team out, and he’ll be joined in attack by Luis Suarez.
Possible starting XI: Ter Stegen; Semedo, Pique, Umtiti, Alba; Rakitic, Busquets, Coutinho; Dembele, Messi, Suarez.
