Amazon Prime Video Watch Party feature allows you to share content with up to 100 users

Published

Popular OTT platform Amazon Prime Video recently got a new feature that will help it compete with rival Netflix. The Watch Party feature is a streaming trend that has picked up in the lockdown during the pandemic this year. It allows users to experience social viewing of content while maintaining distance by staying at their own homes.

The Watch Party lets Amazon Prime Video users participate in a party where you can synchronize playback for all members within the party. This means you and your friends can effectively simulate watching the movie or show together. The feature supports up to 100 members as of now. Further, there is even a chat bar to the right side of the main video window. This is where members of the party can communicate during playback.

The feature is available only in the USA for now. However, with the lockdowns still going strong in particular areas of the world like India, we expect the feature to roll out in other parts of the world soon enough too.

The Watch Party trend

The hype started with a third party add-on for browsers called Netflix Party, which was unaffiliated to Netflix. The add on allowed users to synchronize the playback of their respective Netflix accounts and enjoy a movie or a show ‘together’. Since then, various services including Hulu and Scener have launched a co-viewing experience for users.

Amazon Prime Video Watch Party allows users to select from a number of VOD titles that are already included as part of the Prime membership. Needless to say, you need an Amazon Prime membership to make use of the Watch Party feature. This includes both the streaming host and the other members of the party.

The feature works by generating a link every time you create a new Watch Party. This link can then be sent to family and friends, who can then open it via any browser. Note that reports have stated that Apple Safari has some issues with the feature as of now.

DC Superheros "Suit Up" For 24-Hour FanDome Event #DCSuitUp

Next weekend DC is organizing a virtual 24-hour FanDome event for fans, where fans will come together (virtually, of course). With reveals planned for nearly every DC/Warner Bros. property under the sun, you just know it’s going to be a super time (eh? eh?) that opens up the celebrity and teaser trailer floodgates. To ramp up the excitement, participating stars — like Dwayne Johnson (Black Adam), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Cress Williams (Black Lightning), Zachary Levi (Shazam!), Ezra Miller (The Flash), and even Javicia Leslie (aka, the new Batwoman for Season 2) — are helping show off heroic and villainous cosplays from around the world.

Mimicking the seamlessly matched action of that kickass video Zoe Bell organized back in early May, the #DCSuitUp posts begin with a certain DC film or TV actor, who then hands things off to the fans and their Tik Tok videos. Because who would any of these blockbuster stars be without the people supporting them, right?

It beautifully underscores what the 24-hour celebration of comic book ecstasy is all about. WB’s glaring absence from Comic-Con@Home will hopefully be forgiven if we lay eyes on some sweet, sweet footage from The Suicide Squad or The Batman.

Videos have been steadily dropping on DC Comics’ Instagram account throughout the day and more are expected to arrive (where you at, Pattinson?) as we draw closer and closer to FanDome.

“We were thrilled that Shawn – who is, let”s be honest, an OG superhero – wanted to play the crucial part of Lamplighter. He brings so much depth, menace, and world-weary humanity to this former member of the Seven. And Shawn is a really good guy. We”re grateful to have him join our bloody little family,” Kripke said in a statement.

The second season of “The Boys” will debut on Amazon Prime Video with the first three episodes dropping on September 4, and new episodes available each Friday.
