BCCI Will Not Pressurize ICC To Postpone T20 World Cup For IPL 2020, Reveals BCCI Treasurer

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 has been postponed indefinitely by the Board of Control for Cricket In India (BCCI) just like the other sporting events because of the coronavirus pandemic. The tournament was slated to start on March 29 but then it was postponed till April 15 as the Indian government imposed lockdown in the country.

However, the board decided to postpone the league for an indefinite period after the Indian government announced the extension of lockdown till May 1. In fact, the chances of the IPL 2020 taking place this year is quite low as the T20 ICC World Cup 2020 is also scheduled later this year.

However, there were reports that the T20 ICC World Cup can also be postponed and an official announcement can be made in this regard by the International Cricket Council (ICC) by the next week. It was also said that BCCI may try to organize the IPL in the month of October-November after the T20 ICC World Cup gets postponed. But now Arun Dhumal, the treasurer of BCCI, has made it clear that the board will think of organizing the IPL only if there is a slot available.

The statement by Arun Dhumal holds importance considering the fact that the Australian media is alleging that BCCI will try to pressurize ICC so that the T20 ICC World Cup is pushed further and it can get the slot for the IPL. However, Arun Dhumal has stated that BCCI is no mood to suggest the postponement of the T20 ICC World Cup; they will discuss everything in the meeting and the final call will be made by ICC.

In fact, Arun Dhumal has thrown the ball in Cricket Australia’s court stating that a lot depends on the board and government of Australia whether they are fine with so many teams coming and playing in their country and are ready to organize such a big tournament within the closed doors. The BCCI treasurer said that it is now upon Cricket Australia to take a call.

But there is no denying the fact that if the IPL doesn’t take place this year, the Indian board is going to suffer a loss of around Rs. 4,000 crore.

Sona Mohapatra Dedicates Song ‘Nilamani’ To People Of Amphan-Hit Odisha

Singer Sona Mohapatra has dedicated a song titled “Nilamani” to the people of her home state, Orissa, and other people who braved the super cyclone Amphan.

The music video of “Nilamani” celebrates the resilience of those affected by Amphan, while putting a spotlight on traditional arts and artistes. It’s a song she sang in Oriya, which she recorded before lockdown but is releasing it now after editing it during the lockdown period. Sona created and edited the music video along with her husband, composed Ram Sampath.

“We just braved the Amphan cyclone and I feel proud of the manner in which the disaster relief administration managed to evacuate over 3 lakh people in time. Also the state has not only contained the Covid pandemic well but shown a great humane example by successfully providing state run free buses to the migrant workers walking to reach the neighbouring states of Bihar and West Bengal,” Sona Mohapatra said.

She continued: “My friend, cinematographer Deepti Gupta and director of ‘Shut Up Sona’, shot this footage of the beautiful countryside of Odisha during my travels there for a music concert. We decided to edit it during lockdown as a music video and created this song with Ram Sampath at home as an ode to the resilience of people against adversity and also to put a spotlight on the folk artistes of our land who carry the heritage of our civilisational ethos.”

Sona Mohapatra feels one “shouldn’t forget those who create beauty and give our lives the ethereal quality” during discussions of survival and economy.

“I wanted to celebrate all of this through this video and song. This video showcases the 1200 year old ancient Gotipua dancers in their Gurukul, the Patachitra painters community of Raghurajpur and also the brilliant, progressive sculptures, carvings and architecture of the temples of Odisha. A testament to a glorious artist legacy and commitment to creating beauty against all odds,” she said.

Decoding the meaning of the song, she said: ” ‘Nilamani’ (name of the song) is ‘the blue jewel, a sapphire’, another form to address the beloved of the land, Lord Jagannath. His legend is said to come down from the tribes of Odisha. A wooden log with animalistic eyes is a reminder that trees, animals and nature need to be taken care it along with human needs for balance and prosperity. This world-wide health crisis is also a reminder of the same for humanity. I felt this love letter in the form of this song and video would do a lot to uplift the spirits of all.”

She will launch the song later this week.

However, father Salim Khan and wife couldn’t go there due to health and safety reasons. Yesterday, as it marked the end of the Holy month of Ramadan, Eid was celebrated. But as per reports, in Salman’s Bandra residence, where Salim Khan is spending his quarantine, was a regular day with no special delicacies being made.

Salim Khan, in a chat with TOI, when asked about his Eid and Salman’s absence, said, “He has been spending a lot of time there. I just spoke with him today on the phone and we exchanged wishes. We are always in touch with each other through our regular phone calls.”

Knowing the fact that Galaxy hosts a grand Eid daawat, when asked if any special delicacies were made, Salman Khan’s father said, “Bilkul nahi, buss regular khaana hi bann raha hai (Not at all, only regular food is being made).”

Meanwhile, Salman did not break the ritual of surprising his fans on Eid. Not a film this time, but the actor released a new single ‘Bhai Bhai’ on the special occasion. In other news, this Eid was supposed to be the release day for his film Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai. But the outbreak of pandemic pushed things ahead.
