‘Black Widow’: Scarlett Johansson Reacts to Reports That Robert Downey Jr. Will Appear in the Upcoming Marvel Film

Published

on

Marvel’s Black Widow was originally scheduled to premiere in May 2020, but the film is delayed until Nov. 6, 2020 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Still, Black Widow will be the movie to kick off Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Adding to the anticipation of the movie, Robert Downey Jr. is reported to appear in Black Widow as Tony Stark. In an interview with Parade, Scarlett Johansson reacted to the reports Downey Jr. will appear in the Marvel film.

Robert Downey Jr. is expected to appear in ‘Black Widow’

As fans know, both Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff died in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. However, logistically both characters would still be able to appear in the upcoming Black Widow. In the MCU timeline, Black Widow takes place following the events of Captain America: Civil War and before Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

At the Saturn Awards in 2019, Avengers: Endgame received 14 nominations and six wins. Of those wins, Downey Jr. took home the award for Best Actor. While reporting the awards show, Deadline reported that Downey Jr. would also appear in Black Widow.

In September 2019, Deadline reported: “Robert Downey Jr.’s swan song performance as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, in Endgame earned him the best actor in a film award. (Downey will be seen in the role of Stark one more time, however, in the Marvel prequel Black Widow in May 2020.)”

Scarlett Johansson reacts to the reports

In an April 2020 interview with Parade, Johansson discussed the upcoming movie and her time playing Natasha Romanoff in the MCU.

“When we did Iron Man, I didn’t know if the audience would like my interpretation of the character,” she told the publication.

While it took years for Natasha Romanoff to get her own solo movie, Johansson feels that it happened at the right time for her and for the character.

“It’s a film very much about self-forgiveness and accepting decisions that were made for you. It’s much deeper than anything we could have done earlier,” she said.

When asked if Downey Jr. would appear as Tony Stark in Black Widow, the publication said “she only smiles” in response to the question. Based on this, Johansson did not confirm or deny the reports.

What Robert Downey Jr. has said about returning as Tony Stark

At the premiere for Dolittle, Entertainment Tonight asked Downey Jr. if he would appear in Black Widow.

He responded, “It’d be nice if they’d notified me… they can do anything now. This could be a deepfake interview for all we know!”

Since Tony Stark died in Avengers: Endgame, the Russo Brothers have discussed if the character would ever return to the MCU. For Joe and Anthony Russo, there would have to be a good reason for Tony Stark to be resurrected or appear in future MCU movies.

“We’ve always said this and we’ve believed this. Stakes have to be real. If they are not real, then you know… the audience’s emotional investment in those moments, with those characters, and the narrative is contingent upon them feeling like there’s something to be lost,” Anthony Russo said on the ReelBlend Podcast.

He continued, “… in the context of that, it depends how he was brought back. It depends what the storytelling is. It’s certainly something that has to be earned. It’s certainly something that has to surprise and shock audiences. You can’t simply just bring him backThere would have to be a really compelling, innovativeunpredictable narrative event to find your way there, in order for it to be worth it.

Marvel’s ‘Daredevil’ Will Reportedly Feature One of the Heroes From ‘Avengers: Endgame’

Published

on

By

A superhero from Avengers: Endgame is reportedly going to join Marvel’s Daredevil. Rumor has it that the studio is bringing Matt Murdock to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the near future, but he won’t be introduced alone. Which hero from Endgame will make a big splash in the Man Without Fear’s upcoming movie?

Marvel reportedly has big plans for ‘Daredevil’

Marvel is currently one of the most successful studios in Hollywood and rarely does anything on a small budget. The least valuable franchise in the MCU, Ant-Man, runs on a budget of over $100 million, significantly lower than the $700 million the studio spent on Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.

Even Marvel’s upcoming shows on Disney+ will reportedly run
upwards of $25 million per installment, setting them on par with the studio’s
big-screen projects. This puts every franchise under the Marvel banner a
big-budget project, and it looks like Daredevil
will be included in that group of spenders.

An inside source told We
Got This Covered
that Marvel has some big plans for the Daredevil reboot that includes some very
high stakes for the Man Without Fear. The source did not reveal any specifics
about the storyline, but it might include an iconic scene from the comics.

Will Karen Page survive Bullseye’s attack?

A source claims that Marvel is currently kicking around several ideas for Matt. This includes introducing him in another project in Phase 4, such as Spider-Man 3 or even She-Hulk, before giving him his own stand-alone film.

Once Marvel gets to the film stage, the studio reportedly
wants to adapt an iconic moment from the comics that features the death of
Karen Page.

During the Born Again story arc, Bullseye murders Karen on behalf of Kingpin. In the Netflix series, this story played an important part in Season 3, though the show altered the ending by having Karen survive the attack.

Marvel, of course, has not confirmed the reports about Karen, and
these are hardly the only rumors surrounding the project.

This ‘Avengers: Endgame’ star will reportedly cameo

In addition to Daredevil being large in scope and featuring Karen’s death, the source revealed that Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) will be making an appearance in the film.

The insider claims that Marvel wants to have Strange cameo in the
movie to give Matt some much-needed advice about the mystical arts. The
Sorcerer Supreme will reportedly tell Matt how to fight the main antagonists in
The Hand, who have figured out how to raise the dead.

With Marvel already having a full slate for Phase 4 of the MCU, the Daredevil project will likely get underway in Phase 5. This would put it after the events in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is set to hit theaters in 2022.

If that happens, there is a good chance that Marvel will
introduce the character in another movie or television show, a move that would
set the stage for his own film.

Who will be Daredevil?

One of the biggest questions surrounding the Daredevil movie is who will play the main character. Charlie Cox enjoyed a lot of praise from fans and critics alike for his portrayal of Matt in the show, though he doesn’t believe Marvel will offer him the part.

According to Screen
Rant
, Cox recently admitted that Marvel will likely recast all of the
characters for the Daredevil movie.
The actor, who has not played the character since Netflix canceled the show in
2018, believes everyone’s schedules are too busy to make it happen.

Given how the show was well-received, fans will likely find it hard to see anyone else portray the iconic superhero. Even still, it is good to know that Marvel is working on a Daredevil project and that the character will not sit on the shelf for long.

Dwayne Johnson Releases Video Asking ‘Where Is Our Leader?’

Published

Celebrities are getting involved in the national protests against the death of George Floyd. Jamie Foxx, Cole Sprouse and John Boyega have been at protests themselves. John Cusack took photos and video of Chicago protests. Other celebrities are donating to Black Lives Matter, bail funds, George Floyd’s family and other fundraisers. Dwayne Johnson spoke out in a video he released on June 3.

Johnson asked “Where are you?” and repeated it over and over. He directed this question at who he feels is an absent leader. Read what Johnson said and watch the full video below.

Dwayne Johnson is looking for a leader

In his movies, Johnson is the star. He usually leads his costars on an adventure, and he leads his crew on the job behind the scenes. He was a leader in the WWE. He’s a leader as host of The Titan Games. So he wants to know…

“Where are you?” Johnson asked. “Where is our leader, where are you, where is our leader at this time? At this time when our country is down on its knees begging, pleading, hurt, angry, frustrated, in pain, begging and pleading with its arms out just wanting to be heard. Begging and pleading and praying for change. Where are you?”

Dwayne Johnson says the world needs compassion

Johnson continued asking for a leader, but not just any leader. The right leader right now would have to have compassion.

Where is our compassionate leader who’s going to step up to our country who’s down on its knees and extend a hand and say, ‘You stand up. Stand up with me. Stand up with me because I got you. I got you. I got you, I hear you, I’m listening to you and you have my word that I’m going to do everything in my power until my dying day, my last breath to do everything I can to create the change that is needed, to normalize equality because Black Lives Matter.’ Where are you? It’s that same compassionate leader who has to come back and readdress the country.

Dwayne Johnson video, 6/3/2020

Anyone can be a leader

Johnson is calling on someone with authority to lead the country. In other comments he specified the President, though never named Donald Trump. However, in the absence of what he considers a leader, Johnson says we can fill the void.

“Like the majority of Americans, I’m not a politician and I’ve never clearly been elected to office and I’m not the President of the United States,” Johnson said. “But I am a man and I am a father who cares so deeply about my family, about my children and the world that they will live in. I care so deeply about our country and every single person in it. That’s who I am.”

Johnson encourages other Americans to do the same. If The Rock doesn’t motivate you to be a leader, what else will?

“As we continue to wait for that leader to emerge I would recommend to all of you that we must become the leaders we’re looking for,” Johnson said. “We become our own leaders, because we’re doing it now. We must become the leaders we are looking for.”

Until then, Dwayne Johnson is still looking

Johnson spoke for eight minutes. Just in case you forgot where he started, he reiterated one last time.

“I’ll ask it one more time, where are you?” Johnson asked. “Where is that compassionate leader who steps up and takes accountability for his country and all of the people in our country? Where are you because I’ll tell you what, we’re here. We are all here. We’re all here and the process to change has already begun. You can feel it. You can feel it across our country. Change is happening. It’s going to take time. We’re going to get beat up. We’re going to take our lumps. There’s going to be blood. But the process of change has already begun. You guys stay strong. We got this.”

‘Aquaman’: Jason Momoa Actually Played a Citizen of Atlantis Many Years Earlier

Published

on

By

Superhero movies are everywhere in pop culture. So much so that it seems like everyone has some kind of connection to the genre. And Jason Momoa is no exception to that. These days, the actor is best known as Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe. But believe it or not, DC Comics’ Arthur Curry isn’t the first time Momoa has played a citizen of Atlantis.

Jason Momoa led ‘Aquaman,’ the DCEU’s first billion-dollar hit

Against all odds, Aquaman became a monster hit in 2018. For the longest time, the character — who famously communicates with sea creatures — seemed like a punch line. There was no way a movie adaptation could be successful, right?

Then director James Wan brought his horror experience and stylistic sensibility to the project. With Momoa in the lead, the pair delivered an old-school action-adventure that truly connected with audiences. In fact, Aquaman remains the biggest hit throughout the entire DCEU.

Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman — DC’s three biggest heroes — had all headlined movies in the DCEU. But Aquaman surpassed them all. The movie earned $1.1 billion at the worldwide box office. Perhaps it worked so well because Momoa knows a thing or two about Atlantis.

But the actor has played a citizen of Atlantis before

Most fans probably first discovered Momoa on Game of Thrones. Truly, his performance as Khal Drogo made an impression on viewers. But several years before that, Momoa connected with sci-fi/fantasy audiences as Ronon Dex on Stargate Atlantis.

The show was the second to be based on the 1994 box office hit Stargate. It aired from 2005 to 2009 on the Sci Fi Channel, now known simply as Syfy. But it wasn’t until its second season that Momoa — a former star of TV shows Baywatch: Hawaii and North Shore — joined the cast.

Momoa played the character — who hails from a highly advanced planet — and appears in more than 70 episodes. Soon after his introduction, Ronon joins the Atlantis expedition. Momoa stayed with the show from season two until the series finale.

When will Momoa’s Aquaman return to the DCEU?

Momoa may have bid farewell to the Stargate franchise following the conclusion of Stargate Atlantis. But he isn’t leaving the DCEU anytime soon. In fact, if rumors of The Flash solo movie are true, Momoa will have a pivotal role in that project. Then, of course, there’s the Aquaman sequel.

Following the first movie’s billion-dollar box office, Warner Bros. has made Momoa a major face for the franchise. And following a string of hits, the DCEU is really picking up the pace. Beginning in 2022, the franchise will release as many as four movies per year.

The last of these will see Momoa return for Aquaman 2. Other stars remain unconfirmed, but Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has confirmed he will at least return as Black Manta. The untitled sequel — once again directed by Wan — will release on Dec. 16, 2022.
