Facebook ban 18 accounts and 52 pages in Myanmar including Commander-in-Chief

September 1, 2018 by Ydraft Editors

Facebook ban 18 accounts and 52 pages in Myanmar including Commander-in-Chief: On Monday, Facebook discovered a secret Myanmar military propaganda campaign running on their platform.

They said Myanmar’s armed forces were behind the social media posts that targeting the country’s ethnic Rohingya Muslim minority.

In the discussion with Time, a Facebook representative confirmed that they launched an internal investigation earlier this year. They found dozens of accounts intended to mislead users into thinking that they were independent sources of news while disseminating pro-military propaganda and sometimes false, incendiary content about the Rohingya.

Facebook linked the content to Myanmar’s military, known locally as the Tatmadaw, by examining public data on website registration, shared IP addresses and admins with access to multiple accounts, the representative confirmed.

The company announced Monday that it had banned 18 accounts and 52 pages in Myanmar, including those of senior military figures such as Commander-in-Chief Snr-Gen Min Aung Hlaing. It came the same day a U.N. fact-finding mission published a damning report calling for six generals to be charged with crimes including genocide over the military’s role in the violent expulsion of the country’s Rohingya population.

Google secretly tracking users offline purchase data with Mastercard

August 31, 2018 by Ydraft Editors

Google secretly tracking users offline purchase data with Mastercard: Previously Google admits, they track users even after they turn off location tracking and now this. Google has a secret deal with Mastercard that allows it to track the user’s offline purchase data so, they can link it with adverts.

Over the past year, the multi-million dollar deal has given the tech titan unprecedented insight into whether the ads it runs online translate into real-world purchases.

Users are able to opt out of being tracked. However, the deal, uncovered by this week by Bloomberg, was not disclosed to the public by either Google or Mastercard.

Google has boasted that this new feature for advertisers, called Store Sales Measurement, gives the company access to about 70% of U.S. credit and debit card data.

The company hasn’t named who its partners are, but it’s likely more than just Mastercard. It’s currently being tested with a small group of advertisers, reports Bloomberg. Google adds that users can opt out of this kind of tracking via its “Web and App Activity” setting.

Apple is now blocking rainbow watch face in Russia

August 31, 2018 by Ydraft Editors

Apple is now blocking rainbow watch face in Russia: Apple introduced the gay pride(rainbow) watch face in its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. Now, the company is blocking this in Russia.

The Reddit users questioning the lack of a pride watch face in Russia over the past couple of months. The Verge also tested this and found that once an iPhone running the latest iOS 12 beta is switched to the Russian locale “the pride watch face simply disappears.”

Yet iOS developer Guilherme Rambo found evidence that the pride Apple Watch face is “hardcoded to not show up if the paired iPhone is using the Russian locale.”

Russia has passed strict “gay propaganda” laws since 2013, making actions like supporting LGBTQ rights punishable by jail time. Though Apple must comply with the laws of a country if it wants to operate there, the removal of the pride watch face is a disappointing one nonetheless.
