It’s pretty apparent in songs like “wish you were gay” and “My Boy” that Billie Eilish knows what it’s like to have her heartbroken. That’s something she isn’t shy about talking about either, even though she’s been written off by older people because she’s so young.
“When older people say, ‘What do you know about things like love? ‘ I know more about it than you do because I’m feeling it for the first time right now, whereas you haven’t felt that for a long time,” she revealed in an interview with NME. “That doesn’t mean it is any less powerful, but it is a different feeling.”
Eilish has a point, too, as she’s pretty spot-on in her assessment of human emotions, identifying core differences between young people and adults. “They’re used to love, heartbreak, pain, and just wanting to f**king die,” she continued. “But for a younger person that’s all new to you and it’s terrifying.”
Also: Billie Eilish was crazy for Justin Bieber!
It’s perfectly normal for tweens and teens to idolize a pop star or other celebrity that they have a connection to. But for Billie Eilish, who was obsessed with Justin Bieber for several years, it can also be all-consuming. “I can’t even explain it to sound normal — I was in love with him,” she confessed in an interview with The Guardian. “Everything about me was about him, and everything I did was for him. It was so miserable.” Girl, you are not alone in that plight.
Eilish has since become friends with Bieber, and the pair even collaborated on a version of Eilish’s hit song “Bad Guy.” But still, Eilish remembers what it felt like to be super in love with Bieber before her rise to fame. “It’s not a good feeling to be in love with someone who doesn’t know you exist,” she continued. “I would sob all the time because I loved him too much.”
After being asked the question by a reporter in an August 2019 interview with 3voor12, Eilish shared,”I’m in love with myself. … I’m in love with her,” she said, gesturing to herself.
