England v Pakistan ICC World Cup 2019 Match Summary and Highlights

Wood can only squeeze 11 runs from the final over, and that’s a phenomenal victory for Pakistan.

This Cricket World Cup is well and truly underway.

  • Moeen takes 3/50, aided by two excellent Woakes catches
  • Hafeez smashes 62-ball 84, Babar makes 63 in Pakistan’s record World Cup total
  • Root (107) and Buttler (103) both depart after incredible fightback
  • Pakistan win thrilling match by 14 runs

What a scintillating match.

Pakistan were terrific with the bat, with Babar (63), Hafeez (84) and Sarfaraz (55) all central to accumulating their side’s highest ever World Cup total.

In reply, England’s fightback was mesmerizing, as Root (107) and Buttler (103) were both magnificent, but a top-drawer bowling effort from Sarfaraz’s nowling contingent was the difference between the sides in the end.

Wahab (3/81) turned it on when needed, while Shadab (2/63) and Amir (2/67) were potent when it mattered most for their side.

This is true World Cup cricket, the top-ranked side and hosts losing to an out-of-sorts Pakistan who succumbed to a crushing loss in their first bout.

Could they use this momentum to become a real force in this year’s tournament? If they can beat England, they can beat anyone.
