Potential spoilers for your Game of Thrones show finale ahead.
Varys died early in Season 8, Episode 5 “The Bells,” but his plan to remove Danyas a contender for the throne might still succeed. Dany figured out early in the episode that both Tyrion and Varys knew about Jon Snow’s true identity as Aegon Targaryen, correctly guessing that Jon spilled the beans to Sansa and she, in turn, told Dany’s closest advisors.
However, of those figures, just Varys acted right on the data, and he paid the ultimate price for this. Before his departure by fiery implementation, we watched the Master of Spies compose several letters showing Jon’s true identity, a few of which he succeeded in sending away by raven, but suppose he had been planning something much bigger? And imagine should it worked?
Before Varys was implemented,”The Bells” started with a scene demonstrating Varys writing among these treasonous letters. Unexpectedly, he is interrupted by a young woman named Martha comes in and informs him that Dany is refusing to eat anything because she mourns the passing of Missandei. Varys informs her that”we will try again later,” that is simple initially to translate as Varys simply needing Dany to consume anything, so that she can continue with her assignment.
However enthusiasts were quick to determine that Varys could have become something more menacing. Using a spy within the kitchen, he might have been conspiring to kill Daenerys with toxin. Now that Varys is lifeless, it may look like that strategy failed, but maybe it has already triumphed.
In a post into the GoT Theories subreddit, redditor u/J_Mrad asserts that Varys was not attempting to kill Dany with toxin or perhaps weaken her forward of the struggle. Rather, what should he used a particular poison to induce her mad?
The concept points to signs from the publication that this sort of toxin exists: basilisk’s bloodstream.
It is established at the A Song of Fire and Ice novels that basilisk’s bloodstream provides a meat-like odor but causes rabidness in anybody or anything that eats it. From the novels, Oberyn Martell clarifies the effects of basilisk’s blood, stating:
“Basilisk blood. It will give cooked meat a savory smell. But, if eaten, it produces violent madness… in beasts as well as men. A mouse will attack a lion after a taste of basilisk blood. But to a man who knows his heart, is not passion a form of madness?”
Of all of the theories which have come out of the woodwork about Dany’s destiny and why she travelled complete Mad Queen, that holds a nice piece of water. It makes sense that Varys of people would have a toxin such as basilisk’s blood concealed off, waiting to be utilized on the ideal event, and the consequences of basilisk’s bloodstream appear to match up with Dany’s behaviour at King’s Landing.
Obviously, there were lots of indications during Season 8 (along with the whole series) which Daenerys was going down this route, but maybe Varys along with his basilisk’s bloodstream gave Dany the push she needed to genuinely become the Mad Queen.
