Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 4 Preview Confirms Rhaegal Is Alive and Well “Spoiler Alert”: The Battle of Winterfell was quite costly for our northern heroes and their allies, but it doesn’t look like Rhaegal has to be added to the list of major victims. Not this time, at least.
In the look-ahead to next week’s episode of Game of Thrones, Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) celebrates her victory in “the great war” and looks forward to uprooting Cersei (Lena Headey) from her Iron Throne in “the last war,” we see both her dragon-sons Drogon and Rhaegal flying above the battered Stark homestead and flying above her new fleet that aims to transport her to King’s Landing — even if not all of those she just lost both her armies to protect look very sold on the idea.
After Rhaegal was swarmed by a stabby gaggle of wights and limply flew away to an unknown fate, it’s a pretty big relief to know that the only dragon we have to pour one out for this week is Ice Viserion. May he rest in peace, again.
Of course, the dragons weren’t the only mythical creature whose fates weren’t clear after the battle.
Jon Snow’s (Kit Harington) direwolf Ghost was in line for the initial charge alongside Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen) and the Dothraki army, and very few made it back from that effort alive to tell the tale. Whether Ghost was one of them — perhaps buried somewhere in the background of all that ice fog and/or fire ash — remains to be seen, but things don’t look good for our Very Good Boy right now.
Game of Thrones airs on Sundays at 9/8c on HBO.
