After a month-long break, Twitch’s second most popular female streamer is back to creating content, but there’s a catch this time. Yesterday, the 26-years-old streamer, who is also considered Twitch queen, posted a 14-minute long YouTube video about the break she took and what’s coming for her.
It’s been around a decade for Pokimane streaming on Twitch. She started her streaming career when she was 16 years old. Since then, she has been creating content non-stop (while taking some breaks in-between). Last month, the Twitch star announced that she would be taking a break from Twitch to settle down her life and quoting:
I’ve been feeling in need of a mental reset & some time to focus on myself / my life offline. imo proper breaks are essential to one’s health / career longevity, and I’m so grateful for the support y’all have shown me over the years. Thanks for putting me in a position where I’m able to take time off like this. Looking forward to coming back refreshed and ready to make more content 🙂 Take care, stay hydrated, & see you soon!Pokimane
On July 20th, after Twitch Con, Pokimane posted her break announcement on Twitter.
Various big streamers and social media stars send their wishes for a break to Poki. A streamer named Aria invited her to visit Canada, especially Vancouver. Poki responded that she also wanted to go there and has never been to Vancouver because it’s cold and relaxing.
Taking breaks from streaming is normal for creators as people tend to burn out of doing the same thing every day. It also benefits the streaming community, especially that particular creator and their fans, so they can come back with fresh and unique content while focusing on their mental health and personal life.
In the video titled, “why i took a break + what’s next for me” Pokimane explained why she took the break and what she is now planning for her future. In the first five minutes of the video, she talked about her streaming career, when she started, and why she started. Followed by some talk on mental health and her lifestyle.
She explained that she recently moved to a new place and didn’t realise how much of her personal life she was missing due to streaming, like decorating her new house, fitness, and even finding a grocery store. Considering her lifestyle as she likes to go to the gym to keep her body fit or look for necessary things like food which we all need, is quite essential for a person to live, and she was missing them altogether. So, the Twitch star decided to settle down and take a streaming break to fix her lifestyle.
The streamer also mentioned that Twitch (streaming in general) is now creating some hurdles in life. As a streamer, she needs to keep up with all the trending stuff like games or challenges, which could be overwhelming if you’re doing the same straight-up 7-days a week.
While in her break, she was active on Instagram and TikTok, which aligned more with her lifestyle. She only needs to upload a few quick videos on TikTok or Instagram reels, which doesn’t take up much time like streaming. However, she mentioned that she still loves video games but keeping up with every trend is too much and affects her personal life and health.
Streamers tend to stream for 8 hours and even 12 hours a day, and you have to compete and rush more to gain more visibility and viewership among your peers.
However, in contrast, she finds platforms like Instagram and TikTok more suitable for her and she will be uploading more content on these platforms instead of Twitch. It is not very clear if Pokimane is leaving Twitch or not, but one should consider that streamers generally announced these types of things either they are fed up with the platform, or just their contract is ending. But the latter seems to be a solid reason and probable most times.
At the end of the video, Pokimane got a little more emotional and cried, which seemed like she wanted to continue streaming, but it was tough for her to maintain her lifestyle. You can watch the video uploaded by Pokimane on her main channel.
