GTA VI Update: Can GTA 6 Release Break the Minecraft Record?

GTA VI Update: Can GTA 6 Release Break the Minecraft Record?: GTA 6 release date rumors are going on but still there are not word from the officials. But can GTA 6 release will break the most selling game Minecraft as of 2019 record?

Well, it’s kind of possible because the huge success and popularity of GTA 5 that was released back in September 17, 2013. As per Wiki, as of 2019, publisher Take-Two Interactive announced Grand Theft Auto V sales have now reached 115 million copies.

In November 2018, Grand Theft Auto V became the third video game ever to break 100 million copies sold. While the 100 million mark is good for third on the all-time list, Grand Theft Auto V holds an even more coveted record: the most-profitable entertainment release ever. As of April 2018, it’s generated over $6 billion USD in revenue — more than any other game, book, or movie.

A few months back, Minecraft, the beaten the famous multi-platform game Tetris become the best selling game of all time. The total sales of Minecraft went to over 180 million copies, and the initial release of the game was back on November 18, 2011. Compare to GTA 5, Minecraft publishers able to sold over 65 million copies, but GTA 5 releases after almost two years of Minecraft’s initial release.

After the release of games like PUBG and Fortnite, there has been a considerable downfall in searches and gamer’s interest. There are several reasons; most of the famous steamers like a shroud, Ninja, etc. play more of fighting and battleground games, which leads most game lovers to start playing other games than sticking on Minecraft. Along with that, almost every streamer and game lover tend to play new games and especially of those publishers who have good published games already in the market like Rockstar games.

And it is possible that next Grand Theft Auto can break the record of Minecraft.

Here’s Google trends on the overall searches as of 2019 between Minecraft, PUBG, Grand Theft Auto, and Fortnite:

But as per the data of past 12 months from Google trends on the overall searches of these four games shows clearly Fortnite and Minecraft are in top, whereas PUBG has lower searches in 2019 than Grand Theft Auto.

Is it possible to beat Minecraft?

According to NPD Group analyst Mat Piscatella, Grand Theft Auto V scored the most number of appearances in the NPD’s United States top 20 best-selling video game charts this decade.

There is still some time left for this to change but it seems unlikely that GTA’s place at the top will change.

According to the NPD data, Grand Theft Auto 5 made 74 appearances in the charts since its release back in 2013.

Minecraft is the only other game that comes close, grabbing second place with 73 appearances.

And if you think just how popular Minecraft has been over the past ten years, you can see how GTA has become such a big deal.

As a point of reference, Minecraft was initially released back in 2009, so if all the data from the last decade has been used, that means it still has around three-years more of sales to pull from.

The other games currently listed in the top five include Mario Kart 8, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

But the gap between GTA 5, Minecraft and Mario Kart 8 is vast, with MK8 achieving 37 appearances.

NPD analyst Mat Piscatella had this to say about the data, writing online: “Reviewing The NPD Group’s US top 20 best-selling Video Games by month for the 2010s and this fact still blows my mind…

“GTA V has charted in 74 of the 75 months since its debut in Sep ’13, including hitting #19 in Nov ’19. Absolutely unprecedented.”

And questions will soon be raised on whether Rockstar’s next project will be able to beat this record in the next decade. Recent reports have claimed that GTA 6 will be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X, not the PS4 and Xbox One.

But as long as the development team can keep providing more refined and interesting worlds to explore, there seems no reason to discount its chances.
