ICC World Cup 2019: Australia v Sri Lanka Warm Up Match Summary

Published

on

In truth that was a match that never really got going. Sri Lanka will be glad to have got the batting practice, and Thirimanne in particular can be content with his performance, 56 from 69 balls. The problem was every period of consolidation ended in a wicket, without a big partnership being built, and they were stuck in the same gear for the whole innings.

Australia, chasing a low 240 to win, went about it steadily, the partnerships between Khawaja and Marsh, then Khawaja and Maxwell, taking the game away from Sri Lanka. Australia were heavily odds-on favourites at the start of the innings, and those odds only shortened. This is the final round of warm-ups, so the next time these teams play it will be in the World Cup. Australia will face Afghanistan at the Bristol County Ground on Saturday, and Sri Lanka will take on New Zealand in Cardiff the same day.

Match Key Points

  • Sri Lanka win the toss and elect to bat
  • Sri Lanka 130/4 after 30 overs
  • Sri Lanka make 239/8
  • Australia drifting towards victory
  • Australia win by five wickets

India vs Pakistan ICC World Cup 2019 Match Summary and Highlights

And it’s all over! Huge win for India, and massively disappointing result for Pakistan.

India played to a seriously high standard today.

Their batsmen were marvellous, Rohit’s 140 complemented by Kohl’s 77 and Rahul’s 57, while the bowling performance was extremely promising. Kuldeep dismissed Fakhar (62) and Babar (48) when they were both set, before Hardik struck twice in as many balls to all-but secure victory for his side.

For Pakistan, winning the remainder of their matches is imperative now, whereas India are sitting pretty after an unbeaten start to the tournament.
