Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes Dean Henderson decision that affects Chelsea

Published

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly decided that Dean Henderson isn’t ready to make the step up as the club’s No 1… yet. The Sheffield United loanee has enjoyed a final debut season in the top-flight and is knocking on the door to challenge David de Gea.

Given the Spaniard’s inconsistency, many United supporters want to see Henderson given a chance between the sticks next term.

Solskjaer has been keen to stand by De Gea even when his performances haven’t been good enough.

After his blunder against Tottenham in the first game after the restart, the Norwegian claimed De Gea was still the best goalkeeper in the world.

The 29-year-old was though overlooked for the United captaincy when Ashley Young joined Inter Milan in January.

They are yet to configure whether they want him as part of the club’s set-up next season or whether another loan would be more beneficial.

Sergio Romero is the current back-up goalkeeper but has been linked with a move to Everton and Leeds.

The Argentine is frustrated that he continues to be overlooked after several blunders from De Gea.

Henderson wants to stake his claim to be England’s No 1 at next summer’s European Championships.

His best chance of achieving that could be to return to Bramall Lane.

Chelsea are one of the clubs to have expressed an interest in snapping up the 23-year-old.

He has already hinted that he may seek to leave United if he doesn’t get a crack at the whip.

“I think it’s clear for everyone to know. I want to play for Manchester United and England,” Henderson told TV3.

“It feels like I always hit a brick wall. Maybe I’ll get the opportunity [to play for Man United], maybe I won’t, then I’ll have to look down a different avenue.

“The fans have to remember what he’s [De Gea] done for the last nine years – he’s been phenomenal.

“He’s probably been the best player at United for that time period. He should get another opportunity.

“I’m a young lad. I’m working hard. I’m a fan of the club and I want to play for them. Hopefully I have a career at Man United like David de Gea has.”

Jadon Sancho considering drastic Dortmund action to push through Man Utd transfer

But he has now set off to Switzerland, still as a Dortmund player, with negotiations on a move to United currently at a stalemate.

Sancho flew back home to England last weekend to attend a party with rappers Krept and Konan, who both happen to be United fans.

But Dortmund director of media and communication Sascha Fligge insists his short trip to England had nothing to do with a potential move to United.

“It’s common and fine for players to go home before a training camp if they’re not risky,” he said. “The same goes for Jadon [Sancho].

“From our point of view, the pictures that have been shown to us so far do not violate.”

However, the Slovenian could cost as much as £110m so Andre Onana, Nick Pope and Dean Henderson are all cheaper options.

Meanwhile, Ben Chilwell is a long-term target at left-back but his £80m price take could see Chelsea instead turn their attention to Nicolas Tagliafico, Sergio Reguilon or Alex Telles.

Elsewhere, Declan Rice is viewed as a solution to Chelsea’s centre-back problems with Lampard keen to convert the midfielder back to a permanent defender.

Emerson Palmieri, Marcos Alonso, Timeoue Bakayoko and Michy Batshuayi have all been linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge while vice-captain Jorginho could also depart.

Man Utd miss Jadon Sancho transfer deadline as Dortmund contract offer details emerge

Manchester United have made Jadon Sancho their top summer transfer target but Dortmund wanted any deal for the England winger to be done by today. That hasn’t happened but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has not given up in his pursuit of the 20-year-old.

Sancho was in sensational form last season, netting 20 goals and providing 20 assists for his team-mates.

But now Dortmund’s deadline has passed they are ready to offer their prized asset a mega new contract.

United will not be rushed into agreeing to the Bundesliga side’s terms and believe they can still sign Sancho before the transfer window closes in October.

For now, the winger has travelled with the rest of the Dortmund squad for their pre-season training camp.

“They have done great this season but there is no way they can start next season with the same players thinking they can do the same again.”

United are back in action tonight when they take on FC Copengahen in a Europa League quarter-final.
